Meet Dr. Rajeesh George: The Spine Surgeon Who’s Got Your Back—Literally!

Must read

Dr. Rajeesh George is more than just a leading expert in Spine Surgery. With over 24 years of experience and countless lives touched through his work, he has taken a bold step outside the operating theatre to bring his knowledge to the public in a format that’s easy to read and even easier to understand. His book, We Got Your Back, is fast becoming a go-to guide for people struggling with back and neck pain.

An International Career Rooted in Excellence

Born in Kerala, India, Dr. George earned his medical degree from St. John’s National Academy of Health Sciences in Bangalore. His career has taken him across the globe—through the UK, Singapore, and Hong Kong—where he honed his skills and emerged as a leader in minimally invasive spine surgery. Currently based in Singapore, he holds the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in Trauma and Orthopaedics and is a respected member of AO Spine, the Singapore Spine Society, and the International Society of Unilateral Biportal Endoscopy.

Why He Wrote the Book

The idea behind We Got Your Back came from years of treating patients who didn’t know where to start when it came to managing spinal pain. “I realised how much misinformation people were exposed to. Some didn’t even know they needed help,” says Dr. George. His goal was simple— make a clear, compassionate, and trustworthy guide for patients and their families, breaking down the often complex and intimidating world of spine problems into simple, layman-friendly language.

The Writing Process: Carved Out Between Surgeries

It took three years for Dr. George to complete We Got Your Back. What began as bite-sized blog posts scribbled during snatched moments between surgeries and clinic rounds gradually evolved into a full-fledged book. Fuelled by passion and purpose, he traded sleep for storytelling—penning pages late into the night, rising before dawn, and giving up countless weekends to write instead of rest. “There were sacrifices, no doubt,” he reflects, “But I knew this was something people needed,” he recalls.

What the Book Covers

We Got Your Back dives deep into the world of spine health, offering clear, compassionate answers to the questions that keep people up at night—What’s causing my back or neck pain? Is this serious? When should I worry? With easy-to-understand explanations, the book helps readers recognise warning signs, understand their bodies better, and know when it’s time to seek professional help. Beyond that, it empowers readers with practical tools—simple exercises, posture hacks, and lifestyle tips—to protect and strengthen their spine in everyday life. This isn’t meant to replace your doctor, but to make you a more informed, confident partner in your care, helping you avoid unnecessary fear, suffering, and confusion.

Awards and Recognition

Dr. George’s efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. His accolades include:

  • Long-Term Service Award (2024) from NUHS Singapore
  • Service Quality Champ Award (2024)
  • Gold Award for Patient-Centered Care (2023)
  • The COVID Resilience Medal (2023) from the Government of Singapore

In addition to these honours, Dr. George was invited to contribute chapters on advanced endoscopic spine techniques for upcoming academic publications, further affirming his thought leadership and pioneering role in the evolving field of spine surgery.

What’s Next

Dr. George is now working on an updated edition of We Got Your Back, which will include the latest techniques in spinal surgery, robotics, and imaging. “The science is changing fast, and I want readers to stay ahead,” he explains.
