Neil Gaiman, the celebrated author behind hits like The Sandman and Coraline, is currently facing some serious allegations. Two women have come forward, accusing him of sexual assault. Gaiman, however, firmly denies these claims and suggests they’re the result of “false memories.”
Tortoise Media, a British news outlet, has released a four-part podcast digging into these allegations. The first woman, Scarlett, who was 23 at the time, claims that Gaiman assaulted her in February 2022 when she was working as a nanny for his son in New Zealand. Gaiman maintains that everything was consensual.
The second woman, K, says she first met Gaiman at a book signing in Florida back in 2003 when she was 18. Despite her request not to, she alleges that Gaiman engaged in non-consensual activity due to a painful infection.
Gaiman is troubled by these accusations and has said he’s more than willing to cooperate with the investigation, although the New Zealand police haven’t reached out to him yet. He believes the claims stem from a medical condition that leads to false memories, though Tortoise Media reports that Scarlett’s medical records don’t back this up.
At 63, Gaiman is a well-known figure in literature, celebrated for his bestsellers and recent work as an executive producer on the Netflix series Dead Boy Detectives.
